Piano Instruction in Anne Arundel County Email to friendEmail to a Friend
My name is Courtney Crandell. I am a 2009 graduate of Cedar Brook Academy. I am seeking students ages 5 to 15 desiring to begin or further their education in

 Piano
 Theory
 Musicianship

Students will start with 30 minute lessons at $15 per half hour. Lessons will include instruction on keyboard skills and theory.

I have studied piano for twelve years. I received my initial training from Linda Crandell. For five years, ending with my graduation from high school, I studied under Dr. Carol Wolfe-Ralph. From 2004 to 2009, I competed in fourteen piano events, including duo and quartet, on the local and state level. I placed in all but one competition.

I also completed all ten levels of the Maryland State Music Teachers Association (MSMTA) Keyboard Musicianship Program Evaluations, receiving both the Intermediate and Advanced Honors Awards. I completed levels 4 through 7 of the MSMTA Theory Tests. I also received the Distinguished Musicianship Award from MSMTA. In addition, I have served as a church pianist for the past two years.

I hope my qualifications will suit your needs.

Spiritknight Fencing and Adventure Drawing Classes Email to friendEmail to a Friend
Spiritknight Christian Homeschool Classes
with Dave Menehan

SpiritKnight Adventure Drawing

This is a drawing skills development class. My objective is to teach my students to draw, by drawing fun things. Participants (Kids or Parents :-) will be drawing knights and ladies, super heroes, critters and the things that interest you from God's creation and mans imagination. Figure form, line, tone, texture, and foreshortening as well as other skills will be covered.

Class sessions are 1 hour in length, once a week for 8 weeks
There are 4-8 week sessions during the year as well as Winter/Summer camps (adjustable to your group class schedule)

SpiritKnight Fencing

The Knight of old, ideally, was a man of strength and honor, who served his king or lord with incredible loyalty, swearing his fealty, or faithfulness, even unto death. It is my desire to make of you, warriors of this old model in the modern world. Warriors who serve a Lord, greater than Arthur, greater than Aragorn, the Ultimate Lord, Jesus Christ. Join Spiritknight Fencing and become a Knight for Christ!

This is a fitness class! We will be learning a mind sharpening, body strengthening, interesting, historical, SAFE and really FUN sport! All participants take part in fitness exercises, fun drills and games designed to improve skills and strength. We may also have a fun fencing movie clip while we catch our breath between activities! Depending upon class participants we may include daily fencing demos, followed by more skill games & large group activities or bouting for experienced students.

4-8 week sessions during the year as well as winter/summer camps
(adjustable to your group class schedule)

All Fencing equipment is provided for the students first session.
Students need only show up in regular workout wear and athletic shoes. Personal gear can be purchased through Dave for further sessions.

Q: Will I really get to fence?
Barring discipline issues, all 2nd session students will fence. It takes a while to internalize all the skills and discipline necessary to fence. So beginners do not get to fight in their 1st session. Don't worry! It goes by fast it's still fun and there is a lot to cover :-)

Ages

These drawing and fencing classes are appropriate for ages 9 & up. Younger, mature, highly motivated students are occasionally enrolled with the instructors approval.

Dress & supplies

Fencers should dress in comfortable gym type clothing appropriate for physical activity and tennis shoes. If the student has classes following fencing a change of clothes might be nice too.

Drawing students please bring a sketchbook at least 8 1\2 by 11 in size (Hard back preferred, try boarders bookstore for a nice cheap one), regular #2 pencils, erasers, a sharpener and some of their drawings so that I can get a feel for the students skill level.

Hoping to get 20 (or more) people interested in joining together to start a homeschooler's swim group for Fall of 2010. We have at least 5 already! But need to reserve pool space soon. Fabulous instruction available by profession swim coach at Quince Orchard Swim and Tennis (aka "The Bubble") in Gaithersburg near the Kentlands. Possibly to meet Mondays or Fridays in the early afternoon (1:00?). ALL LEVELS and ages available (beginners to ADVANCED/swim team training). Being organized by CBA family with 3 children who swim with coach year-round. Head coach is a GREAT Christian and works with other homeschool groups now.

Summer Opportunities for High School Students

Work on a Congressional campaign Email to friendEmail to a Friend
This is a home school teacher's dream project! You and your children can participate together on a Congressional campaign for a home school mom of 18 years. This is a hands-on opportunity to involve your children in the political process from the grass roots. It's a great civics and government project which can overlap into writing, research, art, and history. It is also an opportunity for them to experience the fact that by our involvement, we the people help to determine the government we get. I need helpers to deliver flyers in neighborhoods with walk lists, stand at grocery stores and metro stops, be in a parade, go to neighborhood parks, football and soccer games, etc. Training will be provided. It can be lots of fun while helping to make a difference. Please visit my website to understand where I stand on the issues. If you're in the same place, please volunteer. You won't be sorry. Participate as much as you like, and you determine your schedule. But hurry! The primary is on September 14th!
